Come to Worship Him
-Star-
First, cool night air beneath a field of stars. Then the quiet rhythm of the journey: leather, polished wood, and the dry earth of distant roads traveled in faithful silence.A soft sweetness follows, drifting through the night; pale blossoms opening in the darkness, their fragrance carried gently on the wind. The dust, starlight, and patient footsteps rest on skin until the travelers kneel in wonder before the child

Scripture
Matthew 2:1-12
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,
‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are in no way least among the princes of Judah;
for out of you shall come a governor
who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’ ”Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.Being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

Reflection
Return to the fragrance.Inhale the scent of STAR.Far from Bethlehem, the Magi see a star. They move.
They leave what is familiar.
They take to the road.
They follow without knowing where it will lead.
The journey is long. They enter a house.
And there is the child. The long road ends on their knees.
They offer their treasures: gold, frankincense, myrrh. They have not come merely to see the King.
They have come to worship him.Worship costs them something:
their journey, their treasures. They cannot return the way they came.
So they leave by another road. What are you still holding back from Christ? What would it mean to place what is precious to you before him?Has your worship changed the road you walk or only the words you say?The star has brought you here.
Come to worship him.
Offer your treasures.
And leave by another way.
Stay here a moment.Let the fragrance of the star
settle gently around you.And when you rise,
it goes with you.
